Greek Lessons

Monday, January 17th, 2011
Aghia Paraskevi
Deree Campus

Today we had our first Greek lesson with Professor Sophia Zevgoli. We learned the Greek alphabet, upper and lower case, useful Greek phrases, and different rules for when to use different characters. This is particularly helpful to my role in the film as associate producer because I have to talk to many locals when it comes to appearance releases, location releases, and even just asking people to stop while we’re shooting a scene. Not to mention it will be so much easier to get food at the farmer’s market now!
We also had self-evaluation meetings today. I was satisfied with the scores I was given from my peers and Taso and Suzanne only had nice things to say about my work ethic. What I walked away with in terms of things I could work on are incorporating Jamie more into my role, since we’re both associate producers, instead of doing all the work on my own. I knew I had a problem with this, and when I think about it I’d honestly be happy to divvy up the work amongst the two of us. I walked away from high school understanding that if I wanted anything to get done, I was going to have to do it myself. That’s not the case in college. People are more than capable and willing to help you out and will complete their jobs to perfection. Sometimes I forget this isn’t high school anymore.
Can I just reiterate how awesome this group is one more time? I feel like even though we amateurs and get things done a bit slower than a 'real' production, we have more dedication than any Hollywood crew. Hollywood crews don't stay after work to get things done and have meetings, you can't run next door and ask the script writer a question. I'm going to be so sad when I can't go next door and have bacon and a nice chat, or go to room 202 and speak six different languages with the coolest guys I've ever met. Sentimentality, here you come!

Everyone loves a good strawberry,
Susie
